Official subject weightings

NUST publishes subject weightings by NET type. These are the two streams covered by Parhako NET.

  • NET-Engineering: Mathematics 50%, Physics 30%, English 20%
  • NET-Business Studies and Social Sciences: Quantitative Mathematics 50%, English 50%
  • General NET-basis merit formula: NET 75%, SSC/O Level/equivalent 10%, HSSC/A Level/equivalent 15%

Engineering and Computing syllabus

Engineering and Computing preparation should cover the full Mathematics and Physics map instead of selecting only a few favourite chapters.

  • Mathematics: algebra, functions, matrices, determinants, trigonometry, sequences, probability, binomial theorem, limits, differentiation, integration, vectors and analytic geometry
  • Physics: measurements, vectors, equilibrium, motion, force, momentum, work and energy, rotation, gravitation, fluids, oscillations, waves, electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics and nuclear physics
  • English: vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, analogies and sentence correction

Business and Social Sciences syllabus

Business preparation is built around Quantitative Math and English with equal weight.

  • Quantitative Math: arithmetic operations, percentages, ratios, averages, profit/loss, interest, time and work, time and distance, algebra, equations, functions, logs, probability, geometry and data interpretation
  • English: synonyms, antonyms, contextual vocabulary, sentence completion, spelling correction, reading comprehension, grammar, sentence correction and analogies
  • LLB applicants should also check the separate LAT requirement published by the relevant admission authorities

How to use the syllabus

A syllabus is useful only when it becomes a study sequence with testing and review.

  • Mark every topic as new, weak, improving or test-ready
  • Do topic practice immediately after studying the concept
  • Use timed tests to check whether the topic is actually ready for exam pressure

Frequently Asked Questions

Does NET Engineering include Chemistry or Intelligence now?

NUST's current published NET-Engineering weighting lists Mathematics, Physics and English for Engineering and Computing. Students should follow the official NUST page for the latest published pattern before each admission cycle.

Is Business NET based on the same syllabus as Engineering NET?

No. Business and Social Sciences uses Quantitative Mathematics and English. It does not require the Engineering Physics and advanced Engineering Mathematics path.
